Hotel Bezzi Tonale - Gavia Pass - Mortirolo Pass - Tonale

Once you have reached the Gavia pass, you can decide to go on towards Santa Caterina, Bormio, Mazzo and the Mortirolo pass, riding uphill from the Valtellina side; then, you go back to the Camonica Valley and Tonale, completing one of the most demanding and extraordinary trails of the Mountains of the Giro d’Italia. Take on this tour de force and you will have the feeling to be a pink jersey champion! The descent is 55 kilometres long and it is really thrilling; from the Gavia (2618 m), you reach Mazzo (553 m), and here you will face a huge difference in height to reach the Mortirolo pass: 12.4 kilometres of ascent, 10.6% average slope and 20% maximum slope, elevation gain of 1300 metres. The ascent to the Mortirolo climbs up through the wood with really tough parts. After 8 kilometres of difficult ascent, you arrive at the monument dedicated to Marco Pantani (an Italian road racing cyclist, widely considered one of the best climbers of his era), erected near a hairpin turn of the road. Enjoy your moment of glory: you have reached the top! Now, ride downhill again till Monno; one more effort and your great feat will be accomplished. After 23 kilometres of gentle ascent, you reach Tonale. Descent from the Mortirolo and ascent back to the hotel: total length 36 km; length of the descent 13 km; length of the ascent 23 km; elevation gain of 900 m approximately.
