From the hotel ride downhill for 23 kilometres along the 42 state highway towards Ponte di Legno; reach the fork of the road and take the 81 provincial road, leading to the characteristic village Monno. Though the most popular ascent takes place on the other side, this alternative itinerary won’t let you down. The length is not that huge, but the ascent is quite demanding; let’s look at the figures: a total elevation gain of 970 m in 13 kilometres. the Passo della Foppa, also known as Mortirolo, is at an altitude of 1852 m; the pass overlooks the province of Sondrio and the beautiful Valtellina. Descent and ascent back to Tonale feasible by bike (total length 36 km; length of the descent 13 km; length of the ascent 23 km; elevation gain of 900 m approximately).
