Hotel Bezzi - Passo Gavia (Gavia Pass)

From the hotel, go downhill for 7 kilometres along the state highway towards Ponte di Legno, till reaching the fork of the road, where you have to take the 29 Gavia provincial road. Go along the 29 road crossing all the valley till reaching the locality of Santa Apollonia, where you can find refreshment at the restaurant & bar Pietra Rossa. You have reached 1584 metres of altitude in the Stelvio National Park and the starting point of the famous ascent to the Gavia Pass (2618 m): 11.5 kilometres of ascent, elevation gain of 1034 m, maximum slope 16%, average slope 7.8%, 12 hairpin turns, 7 times Cima Coppi (title given to the highest peak in the yearly running of the Giro d'Italia), 10 times included in the Giro d’Italia. After the turns and past the wood, go ahead along the crest siding the valley, till reaching the well-known gallery, lighted up since 2012. Past the gallery, you can see below on the left the charming Lago Nero; there are only two turns left, a couple of kilometres with an elevation gain of 246 m, before reaching the peak. At Gavia Pass, you find the rifugio Bonetta, provided with bar and restaurant. Along the way, you can stop at the Ristoro Bar Caione. Descent to Ponte di Legno and ascent back to Tonale feasible by bike.
